Who We Are

First United Lutheran Church is a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), which is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States.

What We Believe

WE BELIEVE in GOD THE FATHER – who created and continues to create everything.

WE BELIEVE in GOD THE SON – who walks with us in our struggles and forgives us where we are.

WE BELIEVE in GOD THE SPIRIT – who is at work and in the midst of everything that exists – even us!

WE BELIEVE THAT “JESUS IS LORD”.  We express that through the Apostles, Nicene, and Athanasian creeds.

WE BELIEVE the BIBLE is the INSPIRED WORD OF GOD.  Both the Old and New Testaments still speak to our lives every day.

WE BELIEVE IN 2 SACRAMENTS that Jesus commanded – Holy Baptism and Holy Communion.  God’s Word with earthly “stuff” reminds us of God’s presence in these special moments.

WE BELIEVE we are “JUSTIFIED BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH”.  The gift of heaven is already ours and our good works and deeds are our thank you note to God for this gift.

WE BELIEVE the 10 COMMANDMENTS help us to LIVE OUT GOD’S DESIRE of how we are to live, work and play together.

WE BELIEVE we are a part of GOD’S FAMILY and we are called to LOVE GOD and LOVE OTHERS.  It seems so simple.

WE BELIEVE the LORD’S PRAYER is an important part of our spiritual life and that is why Jesus taught it to the disciples.

WE BELIEVE IN CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS.  As we own up to our mistakes and admit to God our unholy thoughts and actions, we can experience forgiveness.  Because God forgives us, we can be made whole and be the people God meant us to be again.

WE BELIEVE we are CREATED IN GOD’S IMAGE.  What can we say, God loves a variety of shapes and sizes?!

WE BELIEVE we are “AN” EXPRESSION of GOD’S KINGDOM and not “THE” EXPRESSION of GOD’S KINGDOM.

WE BELIEVE we are CALLED to WELCOME and INVITE those who are not here yet to EXPERIENCE this AMAZING GOOD NEWS of GOD’S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE because of JESUS.
