Why Great Beginnings Preschool

Great Beginnings Preschool is sponsored by the Children & Family Ministry program at First United Lutheran Church, ELCA. All children ages 3 & 4 are welcome. Enrollment is not limited to members of our congregation. We recognize our community’s varying faith backgrounds. Some basic Christian concepts are introduced throughout the year & they include…

  • God loves you and all of creation
  • The Bible is a book of stories of God and God’s promises
  • Jesus taught us to love one another
  • Christmas and Easter from a general Christian religious perspective

Great Beginnings Preschool is designed to be a gentle transition into your child’s first school experience, while providing a solid base for the future.

Meet Our Teachers

Quick Parent Notes

Classroom Volunteers

We always welcome parent helpers in our classroom; we think that it is a very important part of your experience here with us. We like to wait until October to have parent helpers start, this gives your child a chance to get into a routine here at school on their own. We also understand that some parents are at work during the day and are not able to come during class hours. Don’t worry, there is always something that we need a parent’s help with and there are many different opportunities for you to be involved, including but not limited to, Open House, bake sales, classroom donations, cutting and prepping materials for projects, making play-dough and much, much more.

Snacks

Great Beginnings families are asked to bring a snack for our class.

We have monthly calendars for snack sign up. The snack sign-up is located on the parent information board. Please feel free to sign up for any available dates.

We are a State License preschool, so our snacks need to meet the state regulations. Our snacks need to be healthy, please make sure that the first ingredients are NOT sugar, or corn syrup. Look for labels that indicate Whole Grain or Enriched.

If bringing a juice to drink it must be 100% juice, not just 100% natural. We will not be able to serve the juice if it is not 100% juice.

Our snack must cover 2 food groups. The juice or milk CAN be counted as one of the snacks/food groups. You do not need to buy juice boxes/bags; we have pitchers, and encourage the children in self-help skills of pouring their own drinks.

Birthdays

We love to celebrate birthdays here at Great Beginnings. We do try to reserve your child’s birthday on the snack calendar so they can bring in a “special birthday snack” if you wish. If you decide to bring in something that is a little less healthy e.g. cupcakes, then please try to also include a healthy choice to go with it such as grapes, apple slices, string cheese…

If your child has a summer birthday and you would like us to celebrate it here at school, just let us know what day and we will gladly do that.

Field Trips

When taking our field trips, we will meet at our destination. So instead of bringing your child to school that morning you would bring them to our field trip location. Check in with the teachers at that location and please sign your child in and out just like a regular school day. You may choose to stay and chaperone that morning or drop your child off and return at the scheduled time to pick up. Siblings of the enrolled students will not be permitted on field trips. A sign up sheet for parent volunteer chaperones will be posted if you are interested. Field trip permission slips must be on file prior to participation in any field trip.

Snow Days

We follow the Sheboygan Area School District regarding school cancellations. If the Sheboygan Area School District (SASD) is closed for any reason, then we here at Great Beginnings are also closed. Id SASD is on a 2 hour delay, then we here at Great Beginnings are also closed. WHBL (1330 AM), WHBZ (106.5 FM) and WBFM (93.7 FM) should all have announcements regarding SASD closures. You may also check our Great Beginnings Facebook page, or the First United Lutheran Church website. The SASD website can be found here http://www.sheboygan.k12.wi.us.
